You could say that Jamie Smith is one of the 21st century's greatest musical minds. The Londoner is a visionary beat-maker who created the blueprint for the melancholy indie pop of The xx. He is also a DJ with impeccable taste and an impressive repertoire, producing sets like a string of forgotten pearls. ‘In Colour’ (2015), his first solo album as Jamie xx, merges the two different Jamies into one. His eclectic first record is a huge success, showered with accolades. Smith soon switched his focus back to The xx, but the itch is still there. On ‘Idontknow’ (2020) he gives us the first clues, after a five-year absence, of what the future has in store: a sharper and more aggressive Jamie xx.
